Abstract

Objective To analyze the OXA type β-lactamases produced by imipenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa(IRPA)and the relationship of class 1 integron with the genes encoding β-lactamases.Methods A total of 105 strains of IRPA were screened by PCR with 3 primer pairs designed to detect genes encoding OXA-Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ enzymes.Integron corresponding to OXA type β-lactamase was detected and analyzed by PCR-mapping and subsequent DNA sequencing. Results PCR identified that blaOXA genes were positive in 20 isolates.Fourteen strains were found harboring blaOXA-Ⅰ gene(including 3 strains also carrying blaOXA-Ⅱ gene and 3 strains carrying blaOXA-Ⅲ gene). The other 6 strains only harbored blaOXA-Ⅱ gene.Ten of the fourteen strains carried class 1 integron. Conclusions Some IRPA isolates in China can produce blaOXA-Ⅰ.OXA type Ⅱ and OXA type Ⅲ β-lactamases are also present in IRPA.The encoding genes are closely related to the integron.
