Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical effect of root canal filling with thermal gutta- percha and cold lateral condensation of gutta- percha filling. Methods Sixty patients with root canal filling were randomly divided into trial group and control group, each group with 30 cases. Patients in trial group were applied with the warm gutta- percha filling, and patients in control group were applied with cold gutta- percha lateral pressure filling, after a follow- up period of 3 months, the postoperative effects were compared between patients of these two groups. Results The filling time for root canal filling in patients of trial group was significantly lower than that of patients in control group( P 0. 05); the difference in case number with periodontal pain after operation between these 2 groups was not significant( P 0. 05); the total clinical effective rate in patients of trial group after 3 months was 96. 7%,it was significantly higher than that( 80. 0%) of patients in control group( P 0. 05).Conclusion The application of thermal gutta- percha root canal filling can decrease the times of periodontal pain, shorten the time for treatment, and effectively improve the clinical curative effect, hence it can be used as the preferred method for root canal filling.
