The effect of seminar based teaching on competecy of undergraduate nursing students

Objective:To explore new teaching methods for undergraduate nursing students during their clinical practice in order to improve their clinical competency.Methods:182 nursing undergraduate students were randomly allocated into experimental group which used seminar based teaching method,and control group which used the conventional teaching methods.The Six-D Scale was used to measure their performance after their clinical practice,analysis on terminal examination results was also performed to compare the two groups.Results:There were statistical significances between two groups in examination results and in their performance of nursing practice.Conclusion:This study indicates seminar based teaching method may enhance their clinical competency in interpersonal communication skills,nursing plans and assessment,therefore it could have the promise to a wider application in undergraduate nursing students'clinical practice.
