Mencius' Understanding on "the Book of Songs"

Abstract

The Book of Songs and Mencius are Confucian classics.In Mencius,there are a lot of verses which quoted fromthe Book of Songs.Mencius' understanding on Book of Songs mostly disregard original meaning of verse and expound their views freely.Some of his understanding is in line with sense of positive solution,but there are also many elements of misreading.The main reasons caused by misreading are Mencius' good-defense of character and his unique methods of poetry interpretation.Of course,another reason is that language of the Book of Songsis of ambiguity.
