Abstract

OBJECTIVE To comprehend the distribution and resistance to antimicrobial agents of pathogens isolated from sputum of elderly patients with lower respiratory tract infections,so as to provide reference and guidance for rational use of antibiotics.METHODS VITEK32 system was used to identify the microorganisms that were isolated from sputum of elderly patients with lower respiratory tract infection from Jan 2008 to Dec 2010,and K-B method was used for the antibiotics susceptibility test.RESULTS A total of 935 strains of bacteria including 663(70.9%) strains of gram-negative bacilli,197(21.1%)strains of gram-positive cocci, and 75(8.0%)strains of fungi were isolated.Piperacillin/tazobactam,cefoperazone/sulbactam and imipenem were most susceplible to the gram-negative bacilli, teicoplanin and vancomycin were most susceplible to the gram-positive cocci.CONCLUSION The gram-negative bacilli are the major pathogens in elderly patients with lower respiratory tract infections, the drug resistance rate is high,we should take appropriate measures to actively prevent.
