Local anesthesia effects of articaine and mepivacaine on tooth therapy-a randomized controlled double-blind trial

AIM:: To compare the anesthesia effect of articaine and mepivacaine during tooth therapy.METHODS: Two hundred and forty patients were randomizedly divided into two groups;anesthesia with articaine and mepivacaine was applied to them respectively during different tooth therapy.The following items were measured and recorded: the blood pressure and heart rate before and after anesthesia,the facial expression of patients during the operation and the complication of anesthesia.VAS scores were also measured to access the degree of pain during the tooth extraction.RESULTS: Both of articaine and mepivacaine were safe during tooth therapy.Although the scores of the facial expression and VAS in articaine group were lower than those in mepivacaine group during different tooth therapy,there was no significant difference between two anesthetics.CONCLUSIONS: Both of articaine and mepivacaine are effective and safe anesthetics during tooth therapy.
