Abstract
Objective To explore the impacts of smoking and occupations on semen quality.Methods The clinic patients were surveyed for smoking,occupation and living habits by questionnaire.According to the standards of WHO Human Semen and Sperm-Cervical Mucus Interaction Laboratory Manual(4th ed.),the computer-assisted sperm analysis(CASA) was adopted,and in the sperm quality,the correlation between the smokers and non-smokers,and the correlations among different practitioners were analyzed,respectively.Results In the sperm density and vitality,and in the abnormal sperm rate,there were significant differences between the smokers with over 40 cigarettes per day and the others(P0.05 or 0.01).The sperm densities of farmers and drivers were obviously lower than those of the others(P0.05),and their abnormal sperm rates were significantly higher than those of the others(P0.05).Conclusions Excessive smoking affects spermatogenesis in men.The sperm density is lower and abnormal sperm rate is higher in farmers and drivers.
