Among the scholars much less importance has been attached to the literary connotation of Colophons on the Collected Inscriptions of the Past by Ouyang Xiu since it has been regarded as a pioneer writing for epigraphy for a long time.However the author believes that Colophons on the Collected Inscriptions of the Past has the rich diversified values and the interpretation of its literary connotation will help extend the study and understanding of Ouyang Xiu's literary concepts and achievements from the new perspective.The paper mainly discusses the archaism and innovation of literary style,the verity-seeking and perfection of literary diction,and the unique prose style of Ouyang Xiu reflected in the colophons.
