The principle to select gas pipeline river crossing program was illustrated, design principle of crossing river engineering was listed, principles of selecting the crossing position and way were introduced, design steps of river crossing program was illustrated, the main types of crossing river of long distance pipeline including large excavation crossing, directional drilling and pipe jacking crossing were summarized, The applicable conditions of several kinds of river crossing projects were analyzed and summarized, combined with engineering examples. Engineering application of the directional drilling method was discussed.
