Abstract
Landscape,as a foreign language word,is widely used in current Chinese architecture, misleading its core concept.By understanding three meanings of the word in German,English and Chinese, the evolvement of its meaning and its process in the definition of Landscape in Chinese architecture are reviewed. It is obvious that the meaning of architecture from Geography and Ecology is not equal to the one of Chinese architecture. The Chinese name landscape and design is also not an exact interpretation of LA.Finally, the difference between earthscape planning in Chinese and landscape planning in North American and Europe is pointed out.
