Abstract

Objective To study the self-esteem degrees and its influencing factors of nursing students. Methods Eight hundred and twenty-five nursing students at three different educational levels were investigated with SES(the Self-Esteem Scale)and the questionnaire of nursing students. The t test and multiple linear regression were applied to analyze the self-esteem and its related factors in nursing students. Results The score of SES had an ascending tendency with the increase of educational levels and there were significant differences between undergraduates,3-year college students, and junior nursing students. The self-esteem degrees was positively correlated with a positive life attitude, acknowledgement of merits by others, choosing to be a nurse by oneself, net chatting, and independence in life and study(P0.05),but was negatively correlated with a negative life attitude, attending no psychology intervention, afraid of failure in future job,and feeling of uncertainty about future(P0.05).Conclusion The degrees of self-esteem are different in nursing students with different educational levels.Psychological intervention and positive life attitude may improve the degrees of self-esteem in nursing students.
