Abstract

Objective To study the effect of grommet insertion and adenoidectomy in the treatment of secretory otitis media of children. Methods 127 children patients(213 ears) of Otitis Media with Effusion(OME) were divided into two groups.Experiment group had 64(110 ears) patients, treated with the combination of grommet insertion and adenoidectomy.Control group had 63(103 ears) patients, treated with grommet insertion merely. Both groups were followed up for 6~9 months after operation. Results 63 ears were healed well,36 ears were improved in the experiment group, and the total effective rate was 90%.42 ears were healed well,40 ears were improved in the control group, and the total effective rate was 79.6%.The curative effect of experiment group were significantly higer than control group(P0.05). Conclusion Combination of grommet insertion and adenoidectomy was a preferable method in the treatment of OME of children.
