Abstract
Objective To compare the curative effects between pure adenoidectomy and adenoidectomy with tympanostomy tube insertion for treating secretory otitis media(SOM)) complicating adenoid hypertrophy in children. Methods 58 cases of SOM complicating adenoid hypertrophy were randomly divided into group A and B.The group A was treated by pure adenoidectomy excision, while the group B was treated by adenoidectomy with tympanostomy tube insertion. All cases were followed up for 6-12 months and the curative effects in two groups were observed. Results After three months of operation,44 ears in the group A were effective,10 ears were invalid with the effective rate of 81.48%,while 51 ears in the group B were effective and 4 ears were invalid with the effective rate of 92.73%.No statistical difference existed between the two groups(P0.1).After six months,51 ears in the group A were effective and 3 ears were invalid with the effective rate of 94.44%,while 54 ears in the group B were effective and 1 ear was invalid with the effective rate of 98.18%,showing statistical difference between them(P0.05).Conclusion Both pure adenoidectomy and adenoidectomy plus tympanostomy tube insertion are effective treatment methods of secretory otitis media complicating adenoid hypertrophy, which have the important meaning for clinical treatment.
