Abstract

A new hot work die steel (35Cr3Mo3SiVAIRE) has been developed. This steel has high hot strength, excellent tempering stability and cold hot cycling fatigue resistance. In addition, because this steel contains Al and RE, it has good oxidation resistance and nitriding property. It has been used for making hot extrusion dies and precision forging dies, and the results show that the working life of dies made of 35Cr3Mo3SiVAIRE is much longer than that of dies made of 3Cr2W8V or H13.
