Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of Bilevel positive airway pressure ventilation in acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema who had been unresponsive to medical treatment.Method: 38 patients with acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema received BiPAP ventilation when the conventional therapy was not effective. The arterial blood-gas analysis, breathing rate, arterial blood pressure, heart rate were recorded.Result: The arterial blood-gas analysis, breathing rate, arterial blood pressure, heart rate were found to be significantly improved after BiPAP ventilation by face mask.Only 2 patients deteriorated and needed intubation. The efficacy of BiPAP ventilation is 94.7%.Conclusion: BiPAP ventilation can improve cardiac function, pulmonary edema, hypoxemia and reduces the need for intubation in patients with acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema.
