The Interaction Between Dialect and Race Culture——A Study on Longwei Town,Jiedong County

Abstract

The phenomenon that Min dialect and Hakka dialect exist in a town at the same time is common in the eastern region of Guangdong Province,particularly the Chaozhou-Shantou area.This paper aims to reveal the real status quo of the distribution of the Min dialect and Hakka dialect through surveys based on Longwei Town.The main factors which impact the geographical distribution of the dialects in Longwei Town include geography, economy,and marriage and so on.This trend shows that it is the Chaoshan dialect but not the Hakka dialect is facing the situation of being weakened.
