Abstract

New Chinese Grammar by Li Jinxi in 1924 is a work that describes modern Chinese grammar.It noty only draws on traditional Western but also combines the reality of the Chinese language.Since 1950s the book was criticized much,but we can see now that some of the criticism was not just and it is necessary to make a matter-of-fact and fair evaluation about it once again.The sentence-based grammar in New Chinese Grammar starts with the linguistic facts of modern Chinese,puts forward a series of valuable theories and principles which have exerted positive influence on the grammatical system of modern Chinese.Therefore,it is of realistic significance to the study of Chinese nowadays.
