Abstract

AIM: To explore the effect of recombinant somatropin (rHGH) on the postoperative mechanical ventilated patients. METHODS: Sixty surgical patients hospitalized in ICU needed mechanical ventilation were divided into two groups:control group and rHGH group. The thirty patients of each group were teated with ICU standard while the rHGH group was injected rHGH every day. The time of mechanical ventilation of two groups, the peak level of serum albumin, serum biochemical index and the dose of insulin during the period of rHGH treatment were observed. RESULTS: The time of mechanical ventilation of rHGH group was (29±s 13) d, the control group was (40±14) d,(P0.01). The serum albumin increased (P0.01),the glucose and the dose of insulin increased briefly, the calcium increased (P0.05). The calculated mortality was 43 %,practical mortality was 17 % (P0.05). CONCLUSION: rHGH can decrease the time of mechanical ventilation of surgical critical patient, and mortality, incease the successful rate of separating mechanical ventilation from the pationts.
