Abstract

Objective To evaluate spiral CT (SCT) scanning in detecting cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT).Materials and Methods Cerebral venous spiral CT scanning was performed in 20 patients with clinically suspected or known CVT. The results were compared with MRI, MRV and DSA.Results The displaying rate of cerebral veins and sinuses on SCT was up to 90%~100%. Of 20 cases, the diagnosis of CVT was identified in 11, including 2 acute CVT and 9 recanalization of venous thrombosis occlusion, and normal cerebral venous manifestation was seen in the remaining 9.Conclusion Spiral CT scanning is a fast and reliable examination for excluding or verifying cerebral venous lesions, especially for the diagnosis and follow up of acute or chronic cerebral venous thrombosis, and for the detection of cerebral parenchymal complications, such as edema and hemorrhage.
