Abstract
Purpose:To investigate the clinical diagnostic value of non-contrast Multiple-detector row CT(NCMDCT) in diagnosing cerebral venous and sinus thrombosis(CVST). Materials and Methods:The NCMDCT findings of 27 cases with CVST were analyzed retrospectively. Results:Of the 27 NCMDCT examinations ,21 showed high density (direct signs)in the cerebral venous sinuses ,of which 15 were located at the superior sagittal sinuses and the transverse sinuses,7 at the sigmoid sinuses,5 at the straight sinuses,17 demonstrated abnormal density areas of cerebral parenchyma (indirect signs) ,of which 10 showed haemorrhagic venous infarctions,3 cerebral edema,2 cerebral swelling and 2 venous hematoma. More than two locations were affected in 16 patients. NCMDCT scan of 2 cases was normal. The high density area in the cerebral venous sinuses of all 21 cases was location of thrombosis of cerebral venous sinuses confirmed by MRV(13 cases),CTV(19 cases) and / or DSA(13 cases). Conclusion:NCMDCT could demonstrate characteristic direct signs in most CVT and improve diagnostic accuracy combined with indirect signs.
