Abstract

The ultrastructure alteration of diseased leaf infected sugarcane yellow leaf virus(SCYLV) was studied with electron microscopy. The results suggested that the ultrastructure alteration changed apparently in the mitochondria, chloroplast and nucleus of phloem companion cells and mesophyll cells. The abnormal mitochondria expanded with indistinct cristae. In serious abnormal mitochondria, cristae disappeared and vacuolation of mitochondria with a few remains were found. On the other hand, envelop of chloroplast broke and even completely destructed in serious abnormal chloroplast.Thylakoid and grana lamella of chloroplast disappeared and stroma exported. In addition, envelop of chloroplast and stroma lamella in bundle-sheath cells were destructed and the starch granules accumulated and expanded. The abnormal nucleus was found and envelop of nucleus split. The chromatin distributed asymmetrically and degraded.
