Plasticity of Modules of Leymus chinensis in Response to Different Living Conditions

Abstract

Leymus chinensis is a species of typical plant,whose modules have complex adaptive abilities.According to the study at different scales on dynamics of modules of Leymus chinensis under different living conditions,the results showed that there was a significant plasticity for the growth of modules of Leymus chinensis.Firstly,in the natural environment,when the environmental water became better,the rhizome length and rhizome internode number of Leymus chinensis decreased,but the rhizome internode length did not change;Secondarily,under different grazing gradients on field research,plant height,leaf number,rhizome length,rhizome internode number,rhizome internode length and aboveground dry weight of Leymus chinensis without grazing were significant larger than those under grazing;Thirdly,research under artifical grazing experimentations showed that there also was a significant plasticity for the growth of modules.However,the results were not similar with the results from field research,because the growth of rhizomes were limited by the pots.
