A Discussion About the Strategies of the Space Development of the Western Underdeveloped Areas——Take the Development of Southern Shaanxi for Example

As for an underdeveloped area,its regional spatial development strategy should be based on its current economic power and the potential of internal factors and external environment of its economic development.By joining in overall development of neighboring regional economic circles,an underdeveloped area can acquire rapid economic growth.The paper proposes that South Shaanxi should take regional co-operation strategy toward east,south and north.In the short term,the area should build Hanjiang River Economic Belt with Hanzhong and Ankang as its centers and promote overall opening-up framework.Toward south,the area should merge with Chengyu(Chengdu-Chongqing) Economic Circle;Toward east,it should link with Central China's Big Wuhan Economic Circle;Toward north,it should join Shaanxi's Guanzhong Economic Circle.In the long term,it is expected to join the so-called Western-Triangle Economic Circle with Chengdu,Chongqing and Xi'an as its three centers and also merge with Big Wuhan Economic Circle.Therefore,some green industries including water,pharmaceutical and tourism industries should be future leading industries of South Shaanxi.
