Abstract

Objective:To investigate the performance for polishing of nanostructured ceramic compared with traditional dental ceramic.Method:Two dental ceramics(IMAGINE REFLEX and Vita VMK95) were selected.20 discal samples of each ceramic were fabricated, then the surface of the specimens were sequentially polished with SiC water proof abrasive papers grits #240,#400,#600,#800,#1000,#1200 and finally#1500.The surface of each disc was evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively using scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Result:Significantly difference was found between the roughness values of IMAGINE REFLEX and Vita VMK95 ceramics after the same polishing procedure(P(0.05)).SEM results also showed a better surface for IMAGINE REFLEX with less and smaller cracks. The surface roughness values of two ceramics decreased with the increase in polishing level. Conclusion:The IMAGINE REFLEX ceramic showed a better performance for polishing compared with Vita VMK95.
