Abstract

Objective To find out whether PPAR-γ2 Pro12Ala(P12A) gene polymorphism(including PP,PA and AA genetypes, using X/A as common name for PA and AA) is correlated with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) obesity. Methods According to body mass index(BMI),228 T2DM patients were divided into obese group(BMI25 kg/m2,n=105 cases) and non-obese group(BMI≤25 kg/m2,n=123 cases). We determined the genotypes by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP-PRC),compared PPAR-γ2 P12A gene mutation rate, distribution of alleles and clinical biochemical indicators, and analyzed the correlation of PPAR-γ2 P12A gene with obesity. Results PPAR-γ2 P12A polymorphism might not be an independent genetic risk factor of obesity in T2DM patients(OR=1.639,95%CI(0.832,3.233));non-obese group carried Ala allele,TG A/C were significantly higher and HDL significantly lower in them than in those carrying PP allele. Conclusion PPAR-γ2 P12A gene polymorphism, which may not be an independent genetic risk,is not correlated with obesity in T2DM patients.
