Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between serum-ascites albumin grdient(SAAG) and portal pressure . Methods Twenty-eight patients with cirrhotic ascites were examined with endoscopy and abdominal paracentesis,SAAG was the difference of albumin between serum and ascites ,which was classified into high-gradint and low-gradient .Pearson correlation analysis was used to assess the correlation between SAAG and esophagel varices(EV).Results Twenty-six patients had high gradient,22 in which combined with EV;Two patients were low gradient and had not EV.There were correlations between the levels of SAAG and EV(r=0.53,P0.01,r=0.55,P0.01),but not between the levels of SAAG and the degree of EV(P0.05).Conclusion There are correlations between SAAG and portal pressure.
