Abstract
Under the condition that production dykes are existed there along the channel of the Lower Yellow River,a 2-D water and sediment mathematical model for the typical reaches of the Lower Yellow River is adopted for the numerical simulation of the typical floods therein. Through the simulation, the flood routing, overbank flooding, change of river regime, flow velocity distribution and the unit-width discharge distribution of the floodplain and main channel are studied and analyzed herein, and then the diversion ratio between the floodplain and the main channel as well as the submerged areas with various submerging degrees of the floodplain are given as well. This study has a very important significance not only for defining the scope of the main channel and the floodplain to provide a clear range for compensation on the flood disaster occurred on the floodplain, but also for creating a good environment for the development of the floodplain, but also for maintaining a healthy life of the Yellow River.
