Abstract

Objective To analyse the clinical significance of the serum VEGF in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Methods The serum VEGF was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in 40 healthy controls and 140 patients with NPC(63 untreated cases,41 cases with complete remission(CR) and 36 recurrent cases). Results The serum VEGF(ng/L) was (296.5±183.6),(278.7±169.6) and (369.3±315.6) in untreated cases, cases with CR and recurrent cases, respectively, showing a markedly higher level than that in control group(180.9±147.7)ng/L,P0.01,P0.05 and P0.01).The serum VEGF tended to increase with the development of tumor, especially when the distant metastasis happened.Furthermore, patients with high level of serum VEGF had a high risk of recurrence and metastasis. Conclusion The serum VEGF increases in patients with NPC.High VEGF level has a close relationship with the invasion of the tumor.
