Effects Of Puerarin on Cardiac Shape and Function in Myocardial Hypertrophy Induced by Isoproterenol in Rat

Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of Puerarin(Pue) on cardiac shape and function in myocardial hypertrophy induced by isoproterenol(Iso).Methods 40 SD rats were randomized to the following treatments groups: control group,Iso group,Iso+Pue group(Pue group) and Iso+Captoril(Cap) group(Cap group),with 10 rats each group.Cardiac function,ratio of heart weight to body weight and microscope were measured.Results Compared with Iso group,Pue significantly decreased Iso-induced cardiomyocyte diameter and ventricular fibrosis,meliorated cardiac function,and reduced ratio of heart weight to body weight(P0.05).The effect of Pue was similar with that of Cap.Except cardiomyocyte diameter and ventricle fibrosis,there were no differences between Pue group and control group. Conclusions These results indicate that Pue has antidamage effect in myocardial hypertrophy induced by Iso.
