Abstract
This paper,by means of DEA-Malmquist Index, analyzes the total-factor productivity of China' s 30 provinces between 1978 and 2007.The findings show that in this period, the average total-factor productivity of every province has an increase of 3.7%,of which there is an increase of 4.3%in East China, an increase of 3.2%in Central China, and an increase of 3.6%in West China. The main motive power of total-factor productivity is the increasing of technique level. There was a great raise in the total-factor productivity and the contribution rate of technical progress of the deepening period of reform and opening up than its early period, and the increase of the factor productive efficiency was drastic than the technique level in the early period, and although there was a great raise in the level of technology in the deepen period, there was a decrease in the rate of use of productive factors.
