Abstract
Objective To analyze the results of monitoring of measles in Hainan Province. Methods Monitoring work was carried out and the data of monitoring of measles were descriptively analyze by using Epiinfo software. Results There 2 550 suspected measles cases were reported by monitoring system in Hainan from 2002 to 2006 and 2 130 cases were diagnosed as measlse (83.5%) and the average annual incidence of measles was 5.3 per hundred thousand and the fatal rate was 0.05%. The number of cases reported by monitoring system’s report was more than that of epidemic report system. 1 211 suspicious cases’s blood samples were collected and tested. The positive rate IgM antibody to measles was 60.7 %, and that of IgM antibody to rubella was 15.6 %. The measlse cases distributed all of the province and a few local outbreaks occured in some counties every year. From March to Junly is the high occurrence time of measles and 85.3% of cases were adolescents and children under 15 years of age, 48.0% of the cases were from 8 months to 6 years old, 37.3% of cases were from 7 to 15 years old, 83.3% cases without MV vaccination history or unknown vaccination history. Conclusion The sensitivity of the measles monitoring system in Hainan Province is high and measles infection in 2002~2006 was low. The infection of mesleas in adolescents and chidlren is high and effective measures be taken to reduce the prevalence of measles in this population.
