Abstract
The establishment of surveillance system for measles is an important measure to control and eliminate measles. This paper analyzed the running status of measles surveillance system in Gaungdong Province in 1999. There were 1*!928 measles cases reported, that was 21.8 percent higher than the cases reported from routine reporting system. Among these cases, 664 were confirmed as measles by serological test, 686 were clinically diagnosed as measles, and 578 were excluded. The cases occurred mainly in April to June in the children aged 8 months to 10 years old. Only 20.5% cases were vaccinated. The hospitals which carried out active surveillance accounted for 74.9%, the investigating rate of measles cases was 99.8% which was 21.8% greater than the measles cases reported by the infectious disease reporting system.
