Mental Health and its Related Factors among Recruits in a PLA Troop,2010

[Objective] To explore the mental health and its related factors among recruits,2010,so as to provide scientific basis for mental health care.[Methods]The mental health of 1 964 Guangzhou military command recruits was tested in January 2011 by symptom checklist 90(SCL-90),and the influence factors were evaluated by simplified coping style and type A personality questionnaire.[Results]The factorial scores of depression and psychoticism among recruits were significantly lower than the young people's normal value(P0.01).The factorial scores of interpersonal sensitivity and melancholy among singleton recruits were significantly lower than the non-singleton recruits(P0.05),but paranoid score was significantly higher than the latter.The factorial scores of total score,total average score,positive factor number,somzatization,obsessive-compulsion and paranoid were significantly higher than those with positive coping style(P0.05 or 0.01),and the factorial scores of total average score,somzatization,obsessive-compulsion and paranoid were significantly higher than those with middle coping style(P0.05 or 0.01).The 6 factorial scores of somatization,interpersonal sensitivity,depression,hostility,paranoid ideation and psychoticism of SCL-90 with type A personality were significantly higher than those with non-type A personality.[Conclusion]The level of mental health among recruits is higher than the young people's normal value;the two polar coping style and type A personality are the negative factors influencing the mental health of recruits,and positive coping style is beneficial to mental health.
