Analysis on Mortality Level of Injury and Its Distribution Features Among Residents in Hunan Province from 2004 to 2005

Objective To explore the characteristics of injury death among the urban and rural residents in Hunan Province,and to provide a scientific basis for making the precautionary measures. Methods The data,which were selected from the third retrospective sampling investigation of death cause in Hunan Province from 2004 to 2005,were used to analyze the mortality rate of injury,the constituent ratio of injury,and the component difference of external causes. Results The mortality rate of injury in the residents of ten counties (cities and prefectures) of Hunan Province from 2004 to 2005 was 67.40/100,000,and the annual average injury mortality rates of the city and the rural areas were 65.98/100,000 and 67.87/100,000,respectively.The males' annual average injury mortality rate was 1.9 times higher than that of females(P0.01),injury death accounted for 11.08% of the total death cases which was ranked as the fourth among the death causes of the diseases.The top four leading causes of injury deaths were traffic accident,suicide,accidental falling,and drowning. Conclusions Injury has been one of the leading causes of death for population in urban and rural areas of Hunan Province.According to the characteristics of injury deaths of different populations in Hunan Province,it is necessary to develop system research and adopt effective measures in injury prevention.
