Examples for Vocabulary Relationship between Jinyu and Northwest Dialects in Tang & Five Periods

Abstract

According to the corresponding relationship on speech sounds between Jin dialect and Tang Five Periods Northwest dialects,some scholar point out that Jin dialect is the direct successor of Tang Five Periods Northwest dialects,and there exists a genetic relationship between the two.This could be exemplified by some vocabulary appearing in both Jin dialect and Dunhuang literature,which mainly reflects Tang Five Periods Northwest dialects.Meanwhile,this essay also analyzes the reasons for eastward retreat of Tang Five Periods Northwest dialects.
