Abstract
OBJECTIVE:To detect the expression of Beta Protein 1(BP1) in breast tissues and explore its relationship with clinicopathological factors of breast cancer. METHODS:The expression of BP1 was detected in 45 specimens of breast cancer tissues and corresponding adjacent tissues,by using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS:By using RT-PCR,the expression rates of BP1mRNA in breast cancer and adjacent tissues were 75.6% (34/45) and 17.8% (8/45) respectively;by using immunohistochemistry, the expression rates of BP1 protein in breast cancer and adjacent tissues were 66.7%(30/45) and 13.3%(6/45),respectively. The expression of BP1 was significantly higher in breast cancer tissues than in adjacent tissues (P0.05). The overexpression of BP1 in breast cancer was correlated with ER,PR and c-erbB-2 (P0.05). Nevertheless,no correlation was found between the expression of BP1 and other clinicopathological factors, including age, menopausal status, pathological type, tumor size, lymph node metastasis, clinical stage, and Ki-67. CONCLUSIONS:BP1 mRNA may be involved in the occurrence of breast cancer and may become a new therapeutic target in breast cancer. BP1 protein may become a new molecular markers. BP1 is correlated with ER,PR and c-erbB-2 and the detection of the expression of BP1 in breast tissues gives a better way to guide clinical treatment and predict prognosis.
