Abstract
A high resolution numerical model of 3D tidal flow and salinity in Xiangshan Bay was setup with the finite volume coastal ocean model(FVCOM) based on the unstructured grid. The triangular grids were used to fit in with the irregular coastal boundary and island and the σ-coordinate transformation was used in the vertical in order to obtain a smooth representation of irregular variable bottom topography in the model. The results showed the computed values fits good with the measure data. The model is better to simulate the temporal and spatial characteristics of tidal flow and salinity in Xiangshan Bay.
