Abstract
During late Qing Dynasty and earlier Republic of China,China underwent acute social changes and was influenced by Euro-American culture.Some ethos against traditional society showed up in Yanzhao region and notable changes happened to marriage customs: conversions in marriage intermediary,renewal of standards in choosing a spouse,the procedures tending to be simple,the popularization of civilized wedding,the breaking of divorce and remarriage bans,etc.Compared with the past,obvious changes occurred from the superficial marriage forms to profound marriage institution.The causes of change lied in the propulsion of political reforms,economic growth and cultural education.
