Detection of MMP-9 and MMP-2 in type 1 diabetes with incipient diabetic nephropathy and the clinical significance

Objective:To detect the serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9)and matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2)in type 1 diabetes with incipient diabetic nephropathy and analyze their clinical significance.Methods:Fifty-four patiens with type 1 diabetes were divided into two groups according to urine albumin excretion rate(UAER):normoalbuminuria(NA,n=29)group and microalbuminuria(MA,n =25) group.Twenty healthy volunteers were used as control group(NC).MMP-9 and MMP-2 in serum were measured by ELISA.Results:The level of MMP-9 in MA group[(379.00±170.15)ng/mL] was signifi-cantly higher than that in NA group[(228.41±147.21)ng/mL](P 0.01) and the control group[(112.80±78.85)ng/mL](P 0.01).The level of MMP-2 in MA group [(297.84.00±78.50) ng/mL] was signifi-cantly higher than that in NA group [(215.52±40.69n)g/mL](P0.01) and the control group[(154.80±31.31)ng/mL](P 0.01).Conclusion:Higher Serum MMP-9 and MMP-2 in type 1 diabetes with incipient diabetic nephropathy plays an important role in the development of diabetic nephropathy.
