Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between the blood lipid and the carotid atherosclerosis in the patients with cerebral infarction. Methods The levels of triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C),apolipoprotein A-I(apo A-I),apolipoprotein B(apo B),lipoprotein(a) in 344 patients with suspect cerebral infarction were determined and the carotid atherosclerosis was detected by computed tomography(CT)and B-ultrasonographic imaging at the same time. Results In 344 suspect patients, there were 303 patients with cerebral infarction well diagnosed by CT and 41 patients as control groups. In 303 patients with cerebral infarction,206 patients(68.0%) with carotid artery intima-media thickness(IMT)0.9 mm or with atheromatous plaque and 97 patients(32.0%) without carotid atherosclerosis were found. The levels of LDL-C in patients with cerebral infarction were significantly higher than that in control groups(P0.05) no matter whether they were with or without carotid atherosclerosis. The level of apo A-I in patients with carotid atherosclerosis but without cerebral infarction was significantly lower than that in control groups(P0.05). Conclusions The LDL-C and apo A-I are important risk factors and indexes for the patients with cerebral infarction. The carotid atherosclerosis determination by B-ultrasonography and integration blood lipid determination should be useful and valuable for early diagnosis and observation of treatment result in cerebrovascular diseases.
