Abstract
The study on Chinese ancient writings in the twentieth century is extremely typical in the sense:that as a discipline,it is modern and based on the theories of western modern literature;as a study field,it is traditional and deeply rooted in the ancient people's concept and taste in poetry. Thus, the western concept of literature, cultural purport and Chinese traditional thought will surely blend and conflict with each other in the discipline. This situation is not only a universal phenomenon in the course of Chinese cultural modernization, but also a significant deviation from traditional Chinese culture, full of contradictions, mistakes and grievance.
