As a subsystem of the grand social system,the impact of news media ripples to all sectors of social life.The news media have multiple functions.The function of news media has undergone a development from singularity to plurality.It took the news media a very long time to evolve from catering only to the needs of small social groups to serving the general public and shifts from general to specifically targeted transmission.It breaks the boundaries of time and space.The virtual web media bring about the change in the functions of news media both in real and virtual reality.In web2.0 times,it is necessary to examine the functions of news media in the hope that news media would play a better role at present and in the future.
