Treatment of unstable fractures of distal radius with locking compression plate (LCP):a preliminary report

Objective To evaluate clinical treatment of unstable fractures of the distal end of radius with open reduction and internal fixation with locking compression plate (LCP).Methods Six patients (including one of bilateral fractures),4 males and 2 females,with unstable fractures of the distal end of radius were operated on and fixed with LCP from January to.September in 2002.The mean age of the patients was 37.6 years old.According to AO classification:one side was type B3,three sides were CI and three sides were C2.Results Six patients were followed up for 7 to 15 months and the average time was 10 months.Union was obtained and excellent outcomes have been achieved in all cases according to modified Mcbride grading,and the average clinical healing lime was 6 weeks and no complication was found.Conclusion It is an ideal therapy to treat unstable fractures of the distal end of radius with early open reduction and internal fixation of LCP which is u new implant system of AO type.
