Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of intense pulsed light(IPL) on tissue inhibitor of metalloproteases-1(TIMP-1) expression in rat skin and elucidate the biological mechanisms of photorejuvenation. Methods 15 SD rats were treated three regions respectively with IPL. Treatment parameters were the same: 34J/cm2 of the flounce, triple pulses(4ms,5ms,6ms duration), 20ms and 25ms of pulse delays. At day 1,3,5,7,15,30 after treatment, skin specimens were taken at treated areas and non-treated areas respectively. The expression of TIMP-1 was investigated by means of immunohistochemistry. Results At treated regions, positive stains were not observed in skin cells at day 1. The expression of TIMP-1 can be seen at day 3 and got gradually stronger with the time going. The expression reached highest at day 15 and maintained high level at day 30. At non-treated areas, cells stains were negative. Conclusion IPL technology can enhance the expression of skin TIMP-1, suggesting that TIMP-1 play a role in remodeling of skin in photorejuvenation.
