A Probe into CHEN Du-xiu's Thoughts on Translation

CHEN Duxiu was both a political leader and a scholar.As a translator in the period of the New Cultural Movement,he engaged not only in practice and organization,but also in studies.Based on activities and experiences related to translation,he formed his thought on translation,i.e.,translation for politics and revolution. He had his own views on such issues as attitude toward translation,faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance as the principle of relation of literal translation and free translation,the readability of the target text,and the unity of the translated terms.He did his contribution to in modern China theoretically and practically.
