Abstract

We conducted a study on the social and economical conditions along the line, the passenger market size, and the passenger flow consist and features. The study shows that when the railway is completed it will attract passenger flows of all short distance, medium distance and long distance passengers. In 2010, the Jinghu railway corridor will carry 54 961 million people traveling on the line, most of whom will use the high speed railway, part of them the sunset departure and sunrise arrival trains, and a small portion the medium speed trains. The corridor will carry 45 985 million inter line passengers, 10 2% of those have to or will willingly take the high speed trains, 57 9% come onto the high speed line for some distance and continue their journey on the medium speed trains, and 31 9% passengers who just cross the high speed line and continue their journey on their respective existing lines. In the initial period, high and medium speed trains will be operated in a mixed mode on the railway, operating the high speed trains, medium speed trains, and the sunset departure and sunrise arrival trains. It will be proper to control the number of medium speed trains to 20%-30%. On the existing line, normal speed trains are operated to carry regional passengers. In 2010 the Jinghu high speed railway will operate 195 pairs of trains, including 149 pairs of high speed train, 36 pairs of medium speed trains and 10 pairs of the sunset departure and sunrise arrival trains.
