Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effect of sustained airway humidification in the care of severe brain injury patients with tracheotomy.Methods:63 patients with severe brain injury in our hospital from October 2008 to October 2010 were randomly divided into study group(32 cases) and control group(31 cases),the study group were treated with oxygen atomizing discontinuous airway humidification, airway humidification effects and breathing, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation were observed. Results:The incidence of irritating cough, airway mucosal bleeding, phlegm, lung infection in study group(6.3%,6.3%,3.1%,9.4%) were significantly less than the control group(25.8%,19.4%,25.8%,32.2%).The difference was statistically significant(χ2=17.14,14.69,19.96,19.13,P0.05).The heart rate, respiratory rate of study group were lower than control group[(86±10) /min,(18±3)/min vs(109±11) /min,(25±7)/min],PaO2 and SaO2 were higher than control group[(12.1±1.8) kPa,(95.8±4.0)% vs(8.6±3.0) kPa,(91.2±5.7)%],the differences were statistically significant(t=11.37,7.93,6.28,5.39,P0.05).Conclusion:Continuous oxygen spray wet airway tracheostomy for patients with severe traumatic brain injury, expectoration effective, less lung infection, high blood oxygen saturation, and it is worthy of application.
