Comparison of three lithotrity procedures for bladder stones in patients with BPH

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate clinical outcomes of three lithotrity procedures for bladder stones in patients with BPH.Methods:Totally 280 cases of patients haveing bladder stones with BPH were evaluated. There wrre 150 cases treated by lithotrite lithotripsy(group one),55 cases by pneumatic lithotripsy(group two),75 cases by holmium laser lithotripsy(group three). If transurethral lithotripsy is successful, transurethral electrovaporization of prostate is followed.Results:The success rates of bladder stones treated by transurethral lithotrite lithotripsy, pneumatic lithotripsy and holmium laser lithotripsy were 57.3%、67.3%、98.7% respectively. The rates of bladder trauma during operations were 20%、1.8%、0% respectively. The rates of changing to open operations due to bladder injure or stones not crushed were 7%、0%、0% and 40%、32.7%、1.3% respectively .The postoperative urethral stricture rate was 18%、5.5%、2.7% respectively. There were remarkable differences in lithotripsy success rate and the rate of changing to open operations due to stones not crushed between group three and group one or group two(P0.05). There were also remarkable differences between the rates of bladder or urethral injuries and the rate of postoperative urethral stricture between group one and grouptwo or three(P0.05).Conclusions:Holmium laser lithotripsy is a safe and effective treatment modality for bladder stones with BPH.
