A Critical Study of Negative Liberty and Positive Liberty

Abstract

Each of the Negative Liberty theory and the Positive Liberty theory has theoretical and practical origins and certain one-sidedness and limitation. It is of high necessity for the realization of Liberty to combine them organicly. Genally speaking, the Maxist Liberty belongs to Positive Liberty, but it doesn't deny Negative Liberty. Under new historical conditions, we should develop Maxist Liberty theory in accord with the times and the practice, realize organic combination of Negative Liberty with Positive Liberty, and construct socialist political culture.
