Abstract
The effects of the co-existing of dodecyl-dimethyl-betaine BS-12 and cadmium ion(Cd2+) on the germination of water spinach were studied.The results showed that the lower concentrations 5 mg/L of Cd2+ could promote germination of water spinach,while Cd2+ was toxic to water spinach at higher concentrations ≥10 mg/L.In the same Cd2+ concentration,the lower concentrations of BS-12 can mitigate the toxicity of Cd2+ to water spinach.Germination rate,the plant height,chlorophyll content increased first,then decreased with increasing BS-12 concentrations;while the content of malondialdehyde(MDA) decreased first and then raised with increasing BS-12 concentrations.So according to the determination of these indexes,concentrations of BS-12 ≤50 mg/L can mitigate the toxicity of Cd2+ to the germination of water spinach.
